      <title><![CDATA[TUSD Reorganization Plans]]></title>
      <description><![CDATA[The Saguaro Eastside Democrats (SED) meeting on Monday, May 23rd will feature Mark Stegeman, President of the Tucson Unified School Board, and TUSD District Planner Bryant Nodine. The two will talk about plans for the future of TUSD, including information about shifting school boundaries and the possibility of making some elementary schools K-8.

 

The meeting will be held at New Spirit Lutheran Church, 8701 E. Old Spanish Trail (northeast corner at Camino Seco). The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with light refreshments and time for socializing. The speakers begin at 7 p.m. There will be ample time given for an audience question and answer period.

 

All meetings of SED are free and open to the public. You don't have to be a member to attend. For further information, call 850-6755.

      <title><![CDATA[Baja Arizona movement]]></title>
      <description><![CDATA[SED WELCOMED PAUL ECKERSTROM

 

 

Paul Eckerstrom, co-chair of the Start Our State movement was the guest speaker at Saguaro Eastside Democrats (SED) April 25th meeting. Eckerstrom, former chair of Pima County Democrats, discussed the movement which has a goal of creating the 51st State (sometimes called Baja Arizona) by a referendum on the 2012 ballot.

Community Outreach Representative Jose Miranda from Congressman Raul Grijalva's office and Political Director Jessica Schultz of Congresswoman Giffords' staff discussed how both offices worked together to meet the needs of Southern Arizona after the January 8th shootings and how constitutent relations work. 

Following the presentations and discussion, the organization held a brief annual business meeting where the 2010 officers and board were retained for 2011 with the addition of former chair, Jan Kalthop to the board..]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[ We celebrated Presidents Day and Statehood Day on February 27th with our annual I Love Liberty party. Democratic candidates running for Mayor and City Council and elected officials attended with a good time being had by all. Thanks to Mark Stegeman for opening his home to the Saguaro Eastside Democrats.
